Great Backyard Bird Count Weekend: Saturday, February 17, 2018 10:00 – 2:00
Join the Headwaters for a fun day of bird education and birding activities. During this program, you’ll gain important skills and education that will allow you to join hundreds of thousands of citizen scientists across the country to help scientist learn more about what is happening to bird populations. This will be a great event for all ages and no birding experience is required!
Here are some of the activities we’ll have:
Education Stations: Youth visitors will participate in hands on activities and learn skills including how to use binoculars and citizen science apps to improve their bird watching skills. They’ll also participate in activities that will allow them to learn more about how to identify local birds and what you can learn about birds from their beaks. Participants who visit all stations will receive a prize.
Short Talks: Short talks to introduce visitors to a few birding topics including citizen science projects you can participate in at home, how plants in your home garden can create a better bird habitat and what bird feed and feeders are best for local birds. Talks will take place throughout the event.
Explore the Headwaters: The entire Headwaters site will be open for visitors to explore and enjoy.
