The Living Building
A cornerstone of Phase II, this 8,000-square-foot Living Building showcases innovation in sustainable design. Repurposed from existing structures, it features living walls of pollinator plants, rainwater-fed water features, and constructed wetland cells that demonstrate how nature cleanses and sustains itself.

Multi-Purpose & Picnic Areas
The 9,000-square-foot multi-purpose building and 2,800-square-foot outdoor classroom offer flexible space for meetings, exhibits, or community events. Nearby picnic areas with natural shade and permeable walkways provide comfortable spots to gather and enjoy the view.

Wetlands & Overlook
Visitors can experience the quiet beauty of the Comal Springs from the natural overlook, or explore the wastewater treatment wetlands—an inspiring example of conservation in action. These systems not only manage water naturally but also serve as living classrooms for environmental education.

Photography Policy
Informal, amateur photography is welcome and encouraged during your visit! Please be courteous of other visitors while taking photographs.
Commercial/event/professional photography is available by reservation only and requires a permit. This includes photography shoots that use: tripods, reflectors, costumes, or clothing changes. All participants must purchase admission to the Headwaters.
We require all photographers and their parties follow the same rules we require of all visitors. Participants must stay on paths in order to preserve the natural plant and wildlife found at the headwaters.
Permits are available to Headwaters at the Comal Members only. One time permits may be purchased for $25 per shoot.
